About Irbesartan (IRBEQ) 150mg Tablet
Irbesartan (IRBEQ) 150mg Tablet 100’s is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and protect the kidneys from damage due to diabetes. Each tablet contains 150mg of Irbesartan, a potent antihypertensive agent that works by relaxing blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily, thereby reducing blood pressure and easing the heart’s workload.
Manufactured to high pharmaceutical standards, IRBEQ is indicated for long-term management of essential hypertension in adults, either alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents such as hydrochlorothiazide or calcium channel blockers. It is also prescribed for patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension, particularly when there’s evidence of kidney involvement, as Irbesartan slows the progression of nephropathy.
Irbesartan works by selectively blocking the angiotensin II receptor subtype 1 (AT1), preventing the vasoconstrictive and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II, a hormone that narrows blood vessels and increases blood pressure. Unlike ACE inhibitors, ARBs like Irbesartan do not interfere with bradykinin metabolism, reducing the risk of dry cough and angioedema.
Indications of Irbesartan (IRBEQ) 150mg Tablet 100’s
- Essential hypertension: First-line treatment for lowering high blood pressure in adults.
- Diabetic nephropathy: In patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension, especially with proteinuria (microalbuminuria or overt proteinuria).
- Cardiovascular risk reduction: May reduce the risk of stroke and other heart complications when blood pressure is effectively controlled.
