Amlodipine Besylate (AMLOTHIX) 5mg tablet is used to relax blood vessels, which helps lower high blood pressure, improve blood flow, and reduce the heart’s workload. This also enhances oxygen supply to the heart, preventing chest pain related to heart conditions.

This medication is also prescribed for treating specific types of chest pain, including Prinzmetal’s angina, a rare form that occurs during rest.

Dosage / Direction for Use of Amlodipine Besylate (AMLOTHIX) 5mg Tablet

Adults:

The typical starting dose of Amlodipine is 5 mg once daily, which may be increased to 5 mg once daily. It can be taken with or without food at the same time daily with water, but avoid grapefruit juice.

Children (6-17 years):

The starting dose is 2.5 mg daily, up to a maximum of 5 mg daily. Amlodipine 2.5 mg tablets are not available, and splitting 5 mg tablets is not recommended. Continuously take the medication and consult your doctor before completing your prescription.Your doctor will determine the appropriate dosage of this medication for you. They will also provide guidance on the duration of treatment based on your condition and how you respond to the medication.

Common side-effects of Amlodipine Besylate (AMLOTHIX) 5mg tablet can lead to dizziness or fatigue. Avoid driving or engaging in activities requiring alertness if affected. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience the following side effects:

• Sudden wheezing, chest pain, or difficulty breathing
• Swelling of the eyelids, face, or lips
• Tongue and throat swelling causing breathing difficulty
• Severe skin reactions such as rash, hives, or skin blistering
• Heart attack or abnormal heartbeat
• Inflamed pancreas resulting in severe abdominal and back pain with feeling very unwell. 

Contraindications of of Amlodipine Besylate (AMLOTHIX) 5mg Tablet

Avoid taking Amlodipine if you’re allergic to it or any of its ingredients, which may cause itching, skin redness, or breathing difficulties. Also, refrain from using it if you have severe low blood pressure, narrowing of the aortic heart valve, or cardiogenic shock. Additionally, if you’ve experienced heart failure following a heart attack, do not take Amlodipine.

Special Precautions

Before taking Amlodipine, consult your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you have or had recent heart issues, liver disease, severe blood pressure increases, or if you’re an elderly person requiring a dosage adjustment.

Children and Adolescents

For children and adolescents aged 6 to 17, Amlodipine should only be used for hypertension.

• Other drugs for high blood pressure or heart disease such as Verapamil or Diltiazem
• Simvastatin, a medication for lowering cholesterol
• Certain medications used to treat fungal infections like Itraconazole or Ketoconazole
• Specific antibiotics such as Erythromycin or Clarithromycin
• Medications for HIV infection like Indinavir or Ritonavir
• Rifampicin, a drug used to treat tuberculosis (TB)
• Medications used in organ transplants or for certain immune disorders like Ciclosporin or Tacrolimus
• Dantrolene, an injectable medicine used for malignant hyperthermia (a condition causing a rapid increase in body temperature)
• St. John’s wort, an herbal medicine

Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice while on Amlodipine, as they can affect its effectiveness.

Storage of Amlodipine Besylate (AMLOTHIX) 5mg Tablet

Store Amlodipine Besylate (AMLOTHIX) 5mg tablet between 15-30°C. Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. Protect from light.
