Clonidine HCl (CATAMED) 75mcg Tablet 100’s is a centrally acting alpha-2 adrenergic agonist used primarily for the management of hypertension. It reduces sympathetic outflow from the central nervous system, which decreases heart rate and dilates blood vessels, leading to lower blood pressure. In addition to its use in hypertension, it is also prescribed for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), withdrawal symptoms from opioids, and certain pain syndromes.
This tablet contains 75 micrograms of clonidine hydrochloride and is generally administered orally in multiple daily doses depending on patient response and condition severity.
Indications of Clonidine HCl (CATAMED) 75mcg Tablet 100’s
Clonidine is indicated for:
- Essential and secondary hypertension
- ADHD (as adjunct therapy)
- Management of opioid withdrawal symptoms
- Menopausal hot flashes (off-label)
- Diabetic neuropathy or other chronic pain (adjunct)
- Tourette syndrome (off-label)
Dosage and Administration of Clonidine HCl (CATAMED) 75mcg Tablet 100’s
- Hypertension (Adults): Initial dose is typically 0.1 mg twice daily; dosage may be increased gradually
- Maximum daily dose: Generally should not exceed 2.4 mg per day (in divided doses)
- Adjustments may be needed in elderly patients or those with renal impairment
- Should be taken at the same times each day to maintain consistent blood levels
- Do not discontinue abruptly due to the risk of rebound hypertension
Contraindications of Clonidine HCl (CATAMED) 75mcg Tablet 100’s
- Hypersensitivity to clonidine or any of its components
- Severe bradyarrhythmia or conduction disorders without a pacemaker
- Patients with a history of severe coronary artery disease or recent myocardial infarction (caution)

- Can interact with other CNS depressants, beta-blockers, and tricyclic antidepressants
