About Loperamide (HARVIMIDE) 2mg Capsule
Loperamide (HARVIMIDE) 2mg Capsule is used to control and relieve the symptoms of acute diarrhea. It is also used to treat chronic diarrhea in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Loperamide helps stop diarrhea by slowing down the movements of the intestines.
Loperamide is also used to decrease the amount of drainage in patients who have ileostomies.
Indications:
Loperamide (HARVIMIDE) 2mg Capsule is indicated for:
- Acute Diarrhea: Relief of sudden, short-term diarrhea, including traveler’s diarrhea.
- Chronic Diarrhea: Management of persistent diarrhea associated with conditions like inflammatory bowel disease.
- Ileostomy Management: Reduces the volume of discharge in patients with an ileostomy.
Uses:
- Therapeutic Use: Controls diarrhea and reduces stool frequency.
- Supportive Use: Improves quality of life by managing symptoms of diarrhea.
Dosage and Administration:
- Adults: Initial dose of 4mg (2 capsules), followed by 2mg (1 capsule) after each loose stool. Maximum daily dose should not exceed 16mg (8 capsules).
- Children (6-12 years): Dosage varies based on age and weight. Consult a healthcare provider for specific recommendations.
- Loperamide (HARVIMIDE) 2mg Capsule should be taken orally with water.
Precautions:
- Avoid use if you have a known allergy to loperamide or its components.
- Do not use in cases of bacterial enterocolitis or dysentery with blood in stools.
- Consult a healthcare provider if diarrhea persists for more than 48 hours.
