Carbocisteine (MUCOLIEF) 500mg Capsule is a mucolytic agent used to treat respiratory conditions associated with excessive mucus production, such as chronic bronchitis and other respiratory diseases. 

Carbocisteine (MUCOLIEF) 500mg Capsule  works by breaking down the thick mucus in the airways, making it easier to clear the mucus from the respiratory tract. By reducing the viscosity of mucus, it helps to relieve symptoms such as coughing and difficulty breathing. Indications:

Carbocisteine (MUCOLIEF) 500mg Capsule is  indicated for:

• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): For the reduction of chronic mucus hypersecretion and improvement of airflow in patients with COPD.
• Chronic Bronchitis: To reduce excessive mucus production and relieve symptoms like coughing and chest congestion.
• Asthma: As an adjunct treatment to reduce mucus buildup in the airways.
• Other Respiratory Conditions: To manage conditions associated with excessive mucus secretion, such as bronchiectasis and cystic fibrosis.
• Post-surgical Respiratory Management: To assist in clearing mucus following certain respiratory surgeries or procedures.

 

Dosage:

The dosage of Carbocisteine (MUCOLIEF) 500mg Capsule depends on the type and severity of the infection, the patient’s age, weight, and kidney function. The typical dosages are as follows:

 

• Adults: The typical dosage for adults is 1 capsule (500mg) three times a day for the first 2-3 days, after which the dosage can be reduced to 1 capsule twice a day for maintenance.
• Children (6-12 years): For children aged 6-12 years, the usual dose is 500 mg once or twice daily, depending on the severity of the symptoms.
• Children under 6 years: Carbocisteine is generally not recommended for children under 6 years of age without medical supervision. Always consult a pediatrician for appropriate dosing in younger children. Otherwise, for 2 to 6 years: 125mg given 3 times per day.
